Missouri's Interagency Assistive Technology Short-Term Loan Program

Missouri's ETC Program: Equipment Technology Consortium, is a short-term assistive technology equipment loan program for school districts and agencies. Agency representatives can borrow equipment on behalf of individuals with disabilities to try out the equipment before purchasing, for use during the time equipment is in for repair, or, for other short-term needs. Agencies will be able to borrow the equipment for up to six weeks.

How do I borrow the equipment?

Before a district or agency can borrow a piece of equipment, they must complete an agreement form which needs to be signed by an authorized district or agency representative. The agreement form must be sent the Rockhurst University address listed below and be approved prior to borrowing equipment.

Once your agreement form has been approved, you can proceed with your equipment request. Any of the listed distribution sites can process an equipment request for up to three items. There is no limit to the number of loans. If an item is on loan you will be placed on a waiting list and the equipment will be shipped as soon as it becomes available.

Items will be shipped via Federal Express to the district or agency's Federal Express address. The ETC Program pays all shipping costs. The loan package will include the equipment with instruction manual information, return packing slip, and a letter explaining what equipment you have borrowed and the due date. In some cases, if you are located close to one of the distribution sites, you may be able to pick up and return the equipment rather than having it shipped.

What types of equipment will be available
for loan?

From low-tech to high-tech, ETC has a wide range of equipment available for all ages and disabilities. Categories of devices are:

  • switches and mounts
  • computer access
  • environmental controls
  • hearing devices
  • home modifications
  • telecommunications
  • visual aids
  • augmentative communication devices

A complete listing of equipment available can be accessed by clicking on the links cited below:

You may also search the equipment database at http://etc.rockhurst.edu/browse/search.html.

What technical assistance will be provided?

If you need in-depth technical assistance, beyond that provided in the instruction manual, you can access additional information through links to the equipment manufacturers and vendors on the website. At this time, the ETC Program distribution sites are not designed to provide in-depth technical assistance or on-site training services. If a distribution site is able and willing to provide technical assistance, the borrowing agency can arrange for such services independent of the ETC Program.

How long can I borrow the equipment?

The ETC Program loans equipment for up to six weeks, with extenstions possible as long as they are arranged in advance.
